The Siskiyou County Community Development Department is urging the public to avoid direct contact with water from Cold Creek downstream from the Central Mount Shasta City exit and the waters of Lake Siskiyou until further notice.
Siskiyou County Public Health sent out a news release Wednesday afternoon saying the Community Development Department had been notified that untreated wastewater is accidentally being discharged into Cold Creek due to a break in a main sewer line south of Hatchery Lane and west of Interstate 5.
The City of Mount Shasta is aware of the release and was in the process of making the necessary repairs to the sewer line, according to the release.
No estimates were available for when repairs will be completed or the volume of wastewater discharged.
The Mount Shasta Public Works Department and Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board were on scene, according to the release.
