An unidentified man who abandoned a stolen vehicle Wednesday evening in Yreka eluded a search effort that involved Yreka CHP Officers and the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Department.
According to a news release from the Yreka CHP, a firearm was located in the black 2012 Dodge Charger that was abandoned south of Walters Road. “Items left in the vehicle may help the officers identify the suspect(s),” but no identities could be confirmed, according to the release.
Anyone who has any information about the incident is asked to call CHP Yreka at (530) 841-6006 and ask to speak with Officer Gordon or Officer Parsons. CHP Yreka says callers may remain anonymous if they wish to do so.
The CHP reported that the Charger was stolen after a break-in at Tanner Towing in Grenada either the night of Jan. 10 or early morning hours of Jan. 11.
As reported by Yreka CHP: One of its officers saw the stolen Charger southbound on Fairlane Road south of Moonlit Oaks Avenue in Yreka at approximately 4:40 p.m. Jan. 11. “The CHP officer radioed it in and asked for additional units. As the officer followed the car, it accelerated and came to a stop south of Walters Road. An unidentified male abandoned the Charger and ran away from the scene toward the hillside to the southeast. Yreka CHP Officers quickly saturated the area and were assisted by the Siskiyou County Sheriff's Department. A firearm was located in the vehicle. A search of the area for the suspect was unsuccessful, even for the SCSD K9 Unit.”
