Rotary Club of Dunsmuir received an Award of Commendation from Dunsmuir City Council Thursday in honor of its service to the community.

Thirteen Dunsmuir Rotary members, including those serving on the city council, attended the March 2 council meeting to receive the award.

Dunsmuir Mayor Bryce Craig said, “The Rotary Club of Dunsmuir was established in 1950 and for 67 years have been supporting the Dunsmuir community in numerous ways. In recent years, these programs have included construction and installation of bus stops throughout Dunsmuir, provision of dictionaries to all third grade students on an able basis, provision of many scholarships for the youth, sponsoring the Tin Man Triathlon.”

Craig spoke of the club’s involvement in student exchange programs, “facilitating the sending of 25 local students overseas and the housing of 25 students from foreign nations.”

He said in recent years Rotary Club of Dunsmuir has been recognized by fellow Rotary Clubs for its successes by twice being selected to host the Rotary District 5160 annual conference.

“The Rotary Club of Dunsmuir, made up of several business owners and managers in our community, is ever committed to give back to the Dunsmuir community,” said Craig. “They recognize the need in the Dunsmuir community for nutritious food for our youth. They have well met the challenge and goal of all Rotary Clubs, which is to be a service to the community. Now, therefore, as the Mayor of the City of Dunsmuir, I hereby officially recognize and commend the Rotary Club of Dunsmuir for their unfailing commitment to the City of Dunsmuir and to the Rotary creed.”
