November 6, 1926 – March 11, 2017

Lucille Eleanor Lofgren, a devoted wife, loving mother, proud grandmother, talented artist and devout Catholic, died peacefully at the age of 90. She was born in Mt. Shasta, and her parents, Edward and Thelma Bonneville, had three daughters, including Lucille’s late sisters, Margaret Stair and Barbara Dingmann. Her father worked in the lumber industry, and her family lived in several towns and lumber camps during her upbringing, including Dunsmuir, McCloud, Pondosa, and White Horse.

At age 19, Lucille married the late Earl “Ernie” Waldemar Lofgren, who had enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II and returned to Mt. Shasta after his tour of duty in the Pacific. Ernie’s military career required transfers to several naval bases, but they finally settled in San Diego.

Together they raised eight children, daughters Nancy Russell, Mary Beagin, Sally O’Dell Verkleeren, and Evelyn Rose, and sons Robert, James, Paul and Eric. Lucille also treasured her 21 grandkids and 19 great-grandkids.

A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, March 25 at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in San Diego. She will be placed next to her beloved Ernie at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in Point Loma.

In lieu of flowers, a donation n her memory may be made to the St. Mary Magdalene Children’s Ministry, 1945 Illion St., San Diego, CA 92110. Please reference the Lucille Lofgren Childrens Fund, which supports her passions – children, art, music and religious study.
