David Dwayne Toms, age 57 of Weed, California, passed away on March 2, 2017 at his home after a brief illness, with family by his side.

David was born on August 18, 1959 in Mount Shasta, California and resided in Weed his entire life. He graduated from Weed High School in 1978, where he participated in numerous sports, including football, basketball and track.

Throughout his 20s and early 30s, David was involved in rodeo, where he rode bulls, bareback horses and team roped. His love of sports was evident as he spent many years coaching Little League Baseball, Babe Ruth Baseball and Weed High School junior varsity and varsity football.

He also volunteered his time to run the clock at the Weed High School basketball games and College of the Siskiyous football games for many years.

He was an avid golfer and a member of the Lake Shastina Men’s Golf Club. For the past 25 years, David worked for the City of Weed Public Works Department, most recently as the Public Works Supervisor.

David is survived by his wife, Josephine (Carpine) Toms; his children: son, Colby (and Becca) Toms; daughters: Lorinda Toms, Jennifer Welsch, Melissa (and Michael) Lemos, and Bobby (and Brianne) Wyatt; nine grandchildren; his brother, Gene Toms; and his parents, Lynda and Larry Barbieri.

He was predeceased by his father, Dewey Toms.

David will be remembered for his quick witted remarks and always putting a smile on the faces of those around him.

At David’s request, no services will be held.
