A collection of expertly-executed reproductions in oil by Mt. Shasta area artists of world-renown masterworks will open Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Snow Creek Studios in downtown Mount Shasta.
The 5th annual Forgery Show, a collection of expertly-executed reproductions in oil of world-renown masterworks, is scheduled to open Saturday, April 1, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Snow Creek Studios in Mount Shasta.
This year’s paintings will represent works by Benton, Botticelli, Dalmasio, Da Vinci, Duccio, Freud, Inness, Kandinsky, Redon, Rembrandt, Vermeer, Waterhouse, and several others.
The paintings displayed will be completed by about 20 ArtRoster artists, students of local painter Aleksander Balos.
All the participating artists are Siskiyou County residents: Kit Bertolucci, Dustin Bonivert, Leonard Brown, Christine Campos, Lynn Chertkov, Karen Copsey, Cindy Corrales, Janet Crittenden, Marga Filip, Lezlie Graebel, Lynda Hardy, Lucinda Macy, Darlene Mathis, Anne McTavish, Ariel Morgan, Jenny Purtle, Adrienne Van Summern, Suzanne Van Summern, Linda Vivas, Lou Wandro and Michael Wecksler.
They meet weekly with Balos at Snow Creek Studios to hone their skills and creative expression by drawing and painting their own individual pieces. Balos utilizes techniques from the Old Masters’ atelier system of the European classical and impressionistic painting schools, as well as more contemporary methods.
The Forgery Show began in 2013 when 10 reproductions in oil of Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa were displayed at The Gallery in Mt. Shasta. Since then, the number of participating artists has increased, as well as the variety of masterworks represented.
The show will run through Saturday, April 29.
