Parking at the trailhead on Mt. Shasta is more limited this year because of a heavy snowpack.
The Shasta-McCloud Management Unit of the Shasta-Trinity National Forest is alerting the recreating public visiting Mt. Shasta about traffic and parking concerns at Bunny Flat.
Due to this winter’s heavy snowpack, the parking area at the trailhead is not as large as years past, according information in a flyer distributed by the Forest.
As stated in the flyer:
"This was a big problem last weekend when vehicles started parking in the center of the road making it impossible for other vehicles to turn around. This is also a big concern regarding emergency vehicle access.
"With Memorial Day weekend coming up, the SMMU is asking all visitors to minimize the impact by carpooling, parking further down the mountain at the Upper Sand Flat access road, and along the shoulders of the Everitt Highway where it is safe to do so and not impeding traffic."
It's requested that there be no parking in the center of the road, or vehicles may get towed. Large RVs, trailers and other such vehicles need to be aware that they may get stuck and should refrain from going to Bunny Flat.
