The City of Mt. Shasta distributed the following press release May 25 to get the word out that, based on testing, it is considered safe to engage in water activities in Lake Siskiyou and Cold Creek:
“As reported in January 2017, the City of Mt. Shasta experienced a break in the main wastewater interceptor line just outside city limits. The break resulted in the discharge of wastewater into a wetland area west of Interstate 5. Notices and safety measures were applied to prevent the public from coming into contact with the water.
“The break was quickly identified and repaired by January 17. Testing of the wetlands, Cold Creek, and Lake Siskiyou occurred during the event until early February. The water sampling indicated that bacterial levels were at or below normal levels for the area. It is considered safe to engage in water activities in Cold Creek and Lake Siskiyou.
