Young Imaginations presented a music scholarship to Alexa Gardner, a member of McCloud Elementary School’s 8th grade graduating Class of 2017.
It was presented by Marianne Locke of Young Imaginations during Thursday evening’s graduation ceremony. Locke said, “To be eligible, a graduating eighth grader needs to demonstrate experience and skill in a number of musical areas. These include participation in choral groups, basic proficiency on one or more instruments, experience in school and/or community productions, performing experience with a world music ensemble, creative leadership and responsibility.”
The scholarship was set up by Young Imaginations to encourage students to develop a range of musical skills. Locke said Alexa shows talent as well as dedication, and she has selected music ranging from folk to jazz and pop, then works to discover how each style has its own unique elements.
The scholarship includes an engraved plaque and a monetary award. Alexa was also recognized by the McCloud Chamber of Commerce during the Music for a Sunday Afternoon student performance held Sunday, June 4, at the McCloud Hotel.
Young Imaginations is a non-profit organization that provides multicultural music and dance education in urban and rural schools in northern California. For more information, contact Marianne Locke at 415-302-0506 or visit the website: youngimaginations.org.
