Siskiyou Food Assistance invites everyone to start Thanksgiving Day by participating in the Weed Run for Food, a 5K event at the College of the Siskiyous football field.

Proceeds will be used to purchase food for SFA’s pantry. In the last year, SFA has served 661 local families, according to a press release, and “since 2001, SFA has been meeting the needs of nutritionally insecure residents of south Siskiyou County.”

The 7th annual Run for Food begins at 8:45 a.m. the morning of Nov. 23 with runners and walkers on the COS track. The course goes three quarters of a mile around the COS campus and enters the scenic and wooded two-mile “Bear Trail.” It concludes with a victory lap around the track.

All participants will enjoy music, free refreshments, a free raffle for registered participants, and medals for the top three finishers in each age category.

Participants of all ages and abilities are welcome. The pre-registration fee is $15 for participants ages 12 and up until Friday, Nov. 3. Children ages 6 to 11 participate for free, but are encouraged to register to qualify for medals. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Beginning Saturday, Nov. 4, the fee will be increased to $20 each for ages 12 and up. Children 6 to 11 will still be free.

T-shirts will be offered in several styles. All will be white with this year’s happy face logo. All will cost $15 each. T-shirt purchases, according to the release, can only be guaranteed when orders are placed prior to Nov. 3.

Choices include traditional long-sleeve cotton, short-sleeve tech shirts in both men’s and women’s styling, and long-sleeve tech shirts in men’s and women’s styling. All t-shirts are available in adult sizes only. Vintage shirts will be available at the event for $5 each.
