As of Saturday evening, CAL FIRE reported that approximately 600 homes remained threatened by the Klamathon Fire, as well as two power plants at Iron Gate Reservoir and Copco Lake Reservoir, and water systems for the communities of Yreka and Hornbrook.

Seventy-two structures had been destroyed and 9 damaged by the fire that started in the Hornbrook area of Siskiyou County Thursday afternoon, July 5.

As of an incident report at 7 p.m. Saturday, CAL FIRE listed the fire at 22,000 acres and 20 percent containment.

Fire behavior was said to be moderate as of Saturday evening, but “the fire continues to spread into the Klamath National Forest, Horseshoe Ranch Wildlife Area and private timber stands. Rogue River - Siskiyou National Forest and Jackson County, OR, as well as private timber lands. The fire continues to threaten the communities of Hornbrook, CA; Hilt, CA; and Colestin, OR.”

The incident report shows 2,354 personnel assigned to the fire, along with 176 engines, 12 water tenders, 14 helicopters, 73 hand crews, 18 dozers, and numerous firefighting air tankers from throughout the state flying fire suppression missions as conditions allow.

Threatened and endangered species habitats are threatened on the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument and Soda Mountain Wilderness, according to the report, and CAL FIRE Black Mountain Repeater and Verizon cellular towers on Horn Peak were threatened.

Also listed as threatened were private timber land on the west side of the incident, and the Central Oregon and Pacific Railroad, Inc.

Evacuation orders have been issued for: the communities of Hornbrook, Hilt, Colestin and Irongate Reservoir. Klamath River Community Estates: east of Black Mountain to Desavado Road, south of Copco Road and Ager Beswick Road. East Iron Gate Estates: Areas south of Iron Gate Reservoir/Copco Road, north of Ager/Beswick Road, west of Desavato Road and east of Snackenbury Creek. Copco Lake Area: Areas east of Jenny/Fall Creek, south of the Oregon State Line, north of Copco Road and west of Topsey Grade.

Evacuation warnings have been issued for: East of the Yreka Western Railroad to Iron Gate Reservoir and South to Copco/Ager and North to the CA/OR State line.

Pheasant Valley area: East of Interstate 5, south of the summit of Black Mountain, west of Ager and north of Yreka Ager Road. Airport Road area: Southwest of York Road, west of Airport Road, north of Shelly Road and east of Ager Road. Bogus Creek area: South of Ager Beswick Road, east of York Road and west of Bogus Creek.
