Audrey Denney, candidate for Congress, is coming to the area for a Meet & Greet on Tuesday, Sept. 25, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at ExperShare Workspace in downtown Mt. Shasta.
Denney is running against incumbent Doug LaMalfa on the November ballot for California's District 1 seat in the House of Representatives. She has a background in agriculture, education and nonprofit management. She earned a B.S. and Master’s degree in agricultural education from California State University, Chico. She spent six years teaching agriculture at Chico State, as well as in the private and nonprofit sectors. She also owns a small farm-management enterprise.
Denney states it’s time to end the partisan gridlock in Washington and allow everyone – regardless of party affiliation, to work together.
As stated on her website, audreyforcongress.com, “She believes that the job is not about partisan politics, but about bringing people together, and finding a way forward as a community, a region, and a nation.”
She supports strengthening access to early childhood education, as well as increased emphasis on career and technical education programs, apprenticeship programs and partnerships for workforce and economic development. She advocates investment in infrastructure, such as roads and rural broadband, to create new business opportunities in our area.
Denney supports investment in, and incentivization of, sustainable forestry management practices on private and public land to rebuild forest health, reduce fire risk, generate income, create jobs, and reinvigorate rural economies.
She states that she will work to decrease overall health care costs, lower prescription drug costs, focus on prevention, and support rural hospitals. She opposes privatization of the Veterans Administration system. She states that she will “defend Social Security and Medicare against partisan attacks and work to ensure that it is a rock-solid benefit seniors can count on – not subject to the budget whims of Congress or the fluctuations of the stock market.”
