The fourth of a series of opioid awareness workshops will be held on Monday, Jan. 7, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Mt. Shasta Community Resource Center.
This series of events, sponsored by Siskiyou Against Rx Addiction, Siskiyou County’s Opioid Safety Coalition, serves to educate Siskiyou County residents about opioid addiction and local treatment resources, as well as provide access to Narcan, a life-saving drug that reverses opioid overdose.
SARA Facilitator Maggie Shepard will give a presentation on local data relating to the opioid epidemic and the science behind addiction. A local resident will share their story of addiction and recovery. The evening will finish with a training on how to recognize an overdose and administer nasal Naloxone.
Each community member who completes the training will be provided with a Naloxone nasal spray kit to take home.
The Mt. Shasta Community Resource Center is located at 109 E. Lake Street. Refreshments will be provided, and childcare will also be available. For questions or to request further information, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
SARA is a subcommittee of the county’s Health Care Collaborative and is supported by funding from the California Department of Public Health and through coalition support funds from the state’s Hub and Spoke Systems grant program administered by Aegis Treatment Centers.
