The problem with Measure V (which asks that $75 be tacked on to property tax bills for the benefit of MSRPD, (Mount Shasta Parks and Recreation District) is the 25 year clause. If Measure V asked for $75 for five, maybe ten years, I would have voted “Yes” on the bill. But the long period of 25 years? No. We don’t even know what $75 will be worth next year, let alone 25 years from now. And what about children who inherit our property? Those who wrote Measure V weren’t thinking clearly about what residents might be willing to pay.
As Dorris Moss wrote last week in the Herald in Letters to the Editor: “We, our children and grandchildren will be subject to this tax until 2045.”
