Parker Lapsley got out to 22-01 in the long jump, but his best chance to finish in the top 5 is in the high jump. He was third at the NorCals with a 6-05 clearance.

The College of the Siskiyous track and field team advanced 3 athletes from the NorCal Finals in Modesto to the State Championships Friday and Saturday at the College of San Mateo. They’ll join decathlete Thomas Dodgen who qualified earlier.

Dominque Navarrette has led California Community College discus throwers all year with a best mark of 166-10 achieved in early April. He tied that distance with his winning throw at the NorCals. The SoCal winner won with a throw of 162-9. Coming within a couple feet of his season best will likely get Navarrette a gold medal.

Parker Lapsley got out to 22-01 in the long jump, but his best chance to finish in the top 5 is in the high jump. He was third at the NorCals with a 6-05 clearance. The SoCal meet winner only cleared 6-04.75, so Lapsley should fare well with a good day jumping.

Emma King threw the javelin 102-06 for sixth at the NorCals. She’ll likely have to throw 3 or 4 feet further than that to get into the top 8.

A fourth athlete will compete in San Mateo with Thomas Dodgen, who qualified in April at the NorCal multi’s, taking on the decathlon. He ranks fifth in the state.

Ooh-Shook McDarment finished fifth in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 10:25.93. That was the 16th fastest time in the 2 qualifying meets, but he failed to reach the “A standard” time to get to the State Meet.

Blake Chitwood got eleventh in the 5000m run with a 16:11.03. Earlier he finished eighth in the 10000m run in a personal record of 33:46.76 but was displaced from moving on by faster SoCal finishers.

Alejandro Quinonez ran to a 2:04.84PR in the 800m but didn’t make the final. Pole-vaulter Marissa Macken no-heighted.

Shot-putter Caitlin Bennett just missed getting a point for the Eagles, placing ninth in her event with a 34-07 throw. Christian Dowdell triple-jumped 41-09 for tenth place.

Distance runner Hope Dodgen had qualified in the 1500m and 5000m runs, but had to scratch due to an Achilles tendon injury.
