87 of Edgewood

Born in Childress, Texas on October 8, 1931, the family moved to California when he was a young boy, landed in El Centro, the Poway and settled in National City. He graduated from Sweetwater High School.

After high school, he joined the US Navy in August of 1950. He met the love of his life, Lenore Liljedal, at a military dance club, and was engaged before their first date outside of the meetings of the dance club. He served in the Korean War, on the USS Erben until his discharge in June of 1954.

He began his career in the boiler rooms with SDG&E in San Diego, eventually becoming an electrician. They were able to purchase a home and raise their 5 children(and some grandchildren) in Santee.

After his retirement, they traveled to Weed, California to visit friends and with their love for the area, they purchased a home in Edgewood. For years they traveled between Weed and Santee often, as two daughters and their families moved to Weed and two remained in the San Diego area.

He is preceded in death by their only son, Jim Davis in 1980 and his beautiful wife of 63 years, Lenore, in 2015. He is survived by his only remaining brother, Roy C. Davis of San Diego, four daughters, Barbara Davis, Patty Schiano, Lynn Farrell and Mary Derrick, six grandchildren, Amberscott, Christopher Davis, Christine Walters, David Schiano, Brooke Smith and Angela Schiano, nine great-grandchildren; Justa Davis-Nichols, Jacob Davis, Anthony Jordan, Jayden Smith, Kaydence Smith, Alona and Allison Davis, Jason Smith and Alexis Edge.

He represented what a father should be. He loved, provided, protected, advised, and directed, he taught morals, commitment, the importance of hard work, and dedication. He was Husband, Dad, Papa, Father-in-Law, Brother, comforter, advocate, listener and friend.

A graveside service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, June 14, 2019 at Edgewood Cemetery in Edgewood. A catered reception to follow at his home at 24215 Edgewood Rd, immediately following the service.
