The Siskiyou Voltage U14 girls soccer team came away with the District 9 league title this spring season.

The team is part of the Mt. Shasta Youth Soccer League and consists of girls in fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth grades. The Voltage went 6-1-1 in District 9 playing against tough teams from Corning, Anderson, and Red Bluff.

The team ended the year Saturday at home in Mount Shasta with a 3-0 win over Corning in pouring rain.

Head coach Jason Koster said he is proud of how well the team played this year. He added that about half of the girls are only 11.

“It’s nice to have a group of girls that works so well together,” he said. “They never give up and play with a lot of spirit and heart. They want to win.”

While fall soccer has a Tournament Cup to determine the district winner, there isn’t one for spring soccer, so the season is over for the team. But, Koster said, a group of the younger girls plan to play in a tournament in Anderson on June 1 and 2.

He thanked the parents and his fellow coaches for all their support in making this season such a success.

“We’re one big family,” he said. “Everyone gets along.”
