Longtime Dunsmuir resident Janet (Jan) Connelly passed away May 13, 2019 with her family by her side. Jan was born January 26, 1932 in Redding, California and grew up on the Vollmers Ranch in Shasta County. In 1948, she met Richard (Dick) Connelly at a dance in Dunsmuir and was married for 35 years before Dick passed away in 1986.

As a new bride, Jan worked at Bank of America in Dunsmuir where she met her best friend of 68 years, Billie Mathes. Her role as a volunteer brought her the most joy. Jan served as Board Treasurer for the Friends of the Dunsmuir Library, library volunteer at night, and a member of the community chorus during the holiday season. In 2006 Jan was honored as the Dunsmuir Citizen of the Year. For many years she was active in her church and played piano for the Dunsmuir Methodist Church and Mt. Shasta Methodist Church.

Jan was preceded in death by her husband Dick; daughter Terri Von Tunglen; her siblings Ruth Hill and Shelby and Paul Vollmers. She leaves behind her daughter, Cindy Barajas (Rudy) of Dunsmuir; sons Nicholas Connelly of Colfax, Brian Connelly of Redding, brother David (Gerri) Vollmers, nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Janet had many names: Janet, Jan, Mom, Mimi, and Gigi. But one word that describes her best would be unconditional. She showed us how to love unconditionally. We are all blessed to have had her in our lives.

Services will be held July 20, 2019 at 2 p.m. at Mount Shasta United Methodist Church, 312 W. Alma Street.

Memorial contributions may be made to Friends of the Dunsmuir Library, 5714 Dunsmuir Ave, Dunsmuir, California 96025; or Mount Shasta Methodist Church, PO Box 353, Mt. Shasta, California 96025.
