McCloud Elementary School’s ukulele class may still have a future.

Students Scarlet Stallings, Breanna Castiellon, Grace Cameron, Evelyn Conway and Trip McClure perform on their ukuleles for the last time of the school year with teachers Wanda Welbourn and Julie Bennett and was also accompanied by Selena Johnson who also performed a solo piece.

Johnson, a COS student who performs for the COS theater, and sings in the vocal jazz choir is hoping to take over the ukulele class after Welbourn and Bennett retire at the end of this season. They are actively looking for a replacement teacher for the after school SAFE ukulele class through Young Imaginations.

“I think this would be really fun,” says Johnson who started playing the ukulele while in Hawaii during the winter of 2018.”

During the performance, the children and teachers played Hawaiian and popular American songs strumming in unison.
