When I read your article about the County Wildfire Plan, I couldn’t help sensing some irony given certain events in Weed. Your paper carried an article on the wildfire near Pilot in south Weed. That fire was containable because, fortunately, it occurred in the lowest fire danger zone and we were not yet in fire season.

Five years ago, a large part of Weed was destroyed by fire and a couple of years later the Glassy Junction Restaurant (formerly Silva’s) burned to the ground.

Weed’s fire history is not comforting. Yet, recently the city approved a Love’s truck stop located in an extreme fire danger zone without any mitigation of that danger, not even fuel reduction. When it comes to local agencies and wildfire control, it looks like the right hand doesn’t know what the left hand is doing.
