Grant MacDonald passed away on June 29, 2019, at the age of 86.
Born at the Hollywood Hospital, he grew up in the Los Angeles area, serving as a mechanic in the Navy. A veteran of the Korean War, he formed part of an icebreaker crew in Antarctica aboard the USS Burton. He relocated to Siskiyou County following his military service.
He is survived by his children, Jodi MacDonald, Craig MacDonald, Scott MacDonald, and Morgan Paterna. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Justin and Ashely Murphy and Nicole Paterna, and by his great-grandson, Daniel Murphy.
Described by his family as a “gentle giant,” he was a kind, generous, loving man, always willing to show up and help anyone in need. He was a member of the American Legion Post 92, the Squaw Valley Riding Club, and the Fireman’s Association. A former member of the McCloud Fire Department, he attended the Evangelical Free Church of Mount Shasta, and McCloud Community Presbyterian Church.
A memorial service will take place at the McCloud Presbyterian church on Wednesday, July 10, 2019, at 4 p.m. with a gathering to follow at American Legion Post 92 in McCloud.
