In case you haven’t heard, the Weed City Council voted Thursday night in closed session to give up the fight for the water rights that supplies about 1/2 of our community’s pristine, gravity fed spring water.n Water that the citizens have relied on for over 100 years.

Corporate greed and lack of community support will cause our water bills to increase greatly.

As a member of WCWC (Water for Citizens of Weed CA) we had discovered and uncovered may documents beginning in the early 1900s about ownership of this water. These were submitted to the Superior Court. There was to be a Court decision rendered on September 30th, a decision which we have looked forward to for 4 years. But since the City Council conceded Thursday night -8/8/19, we will never know Judge’s decision.

The thing that should concern the citizens of Weed is that this monumental decision was made without input from the public- no meeting where the public could be made aware of pending decisions. Each elected official should be held accountable to the voters who put their faith in them.

What’s next on the horizon is higher water bills to pay for something that has been rightfully ours for over 100 years.

I sincerely hope that the next time an issue arises, the citizens of Weed will stand up and be counted.

For the few who supported the WCWC and the Weed 9 who were sued by Roseburg, we want to say thank you for all your help and support.

Jim Taylor, President of WCWC
