A new list of the safest cities for tourists to visit is primarily composed of destinations outside the U.S.
The list, compiled by The Economist Intelligence Unit, ranked 60 of the world's top vacation spots, according to CNN, looking at digital security, health security, infrastructure and personal safety.
"The research highlights how different types of safety are thoroughly intertwined," Naka Kondo, senior editor of The Economist Intelligence Unit, told CNN.
No. 1 on the list was Tokyo, which scored a 92 out of a possible 100. Singapore and Osaka were second and third, respectively.
The only U.S. destination to make the top 10 was Washington, D.C., coming in at No. 7. Chicago barely missed the top 10, placing 11th on the list.
One city that saw a huge plunge was Hong Kong, which fell from No. 9 in 2018 to No. 20 this year due, in part, to a spike in crime, CNN says.
At the bottom of the list, ranking 60th, was the city of Lagos, Nigeria.
