It was a big social gathering over a family style spaghetti and meatball dinner on Thursday at McCloud Elementary School’s Back to School Night for the 60 students and their families to meet the staff and get to know the school.

McCloud Elementary School Principal Shelley Cain, who also teaches 6 through 8 grades, served up the dinner along with Resource Aide Kelly Fox and Cafeteria Manager Norman May. She says, “Like a big family, we want the parents to feel comfortable coming here. I want to personally meet everyone.”

The classrooms displayed art projects from the SAFE program. Parents mingled with staff. There was a raffle for the students. Announcements of the new grant funded programs and of the upcoming field trips were discussed.

Once a student herself at the school, Ms. Cain started working at McCloud Elementary in 2001. “Great strong members of our community have been through our school. Gil Steele was the principal here for 38 years, Jeralee Hanson taught here for 38 years also, Laurie and Raymond Zanni, the list goes on. Sybil Stewart was a student here and worked here as well. Ron Berryman and his sons... I think the kids know they have McCloud behind them. Our smaller school offers so much and provides a family atmosphere.”
