The event is the brainchild of Christopher Munday, who also organizes the annual Sundial Bridge ComicCon, which has been successful in Redding for the past three years.

Mount Shasta comic book fans are in for an exciting weekend as the city welcomes its first ever Comic and Sci-Fi Expo. Taking place this Saturday, Oct. 5 in the Siskiyou Masonic Lodge, the convention will be hosting several notable comic artists and writers who have worked with iconic creators like Marvel, DC, and Dark Horse.

The event is the brainchild of Christopher Munday, who also organizes the annual Sundial Bridge ComicCon, which has been successful in Redding for the past three years.

“A lot of Siskiyou County people can’t make it down there to the (Sundial Bridge) ComicCon, so I figured I would give them their own,” Munday said.

Munday is a Siskiyou County resident himself and a long-time comic appreciator. His connections to others in the comic book scene and their willingness to participate in the project made it possible for a convention like this to come to Mount Shasta.

At $3 per person at the door, the expo is affordable to attend, and offers a wide range of traditional convention activities and merchandise. Art, collectables, toys, and other goods will be available for purchase from vendors, including an exclusive Mount Shasta expo print by Walden Wong, an experienced artist with over 650 credits with both Marvel and DC comics. Cosplay (the practice of dressing up as a character from a movie, book, or video game) is welcomed and encouraged.

The NorCal game truck will also be on the premises for anyone to enjoy over the expo’s duration. Especially appealing to kids, the game truck features a variety of video games with a convenient and engaging setup.

With acceptance and support from Siskiyou County residents, the Comic and Sci-Fi Expo could become an annual event. It is open to adults and kids of all ages, with children under 10 admitted for free in the company of a paying adult.

Doors open at 10 a.m. on Saturday and close at 5:30 p.m. More information is available on the event’s Facebook page, @mtshastaexpo.
