The 9th annual Thanksgiving Day Run for Food event is now open for online registrations. The family-friendly event will begin at 8:45 a.m. sharp at the College of the Siskiyous football stadium in Weed, then winds through the Bear Trail and back. The annual event benefits Siskiyou Food Assistance, which provides emergency food for over 700 families in South Siskiyou County.
Run for Food is a great way to start a day of feasting, according to a press release from event organizers. The 3.1 mile course allows for families to spend the morning giving back to those in need. No food is collected at the event. Spectators may make cash donations, purchase shirts or raffle tickets. Registered participants will receive three free raffle tickets for many area gifts.
Registration fee for participants 12 years and up is $20. Children 6-11 years of age are free, but encouraged to register (still free) to qualify for medals.
Awards will be given to the top three finishers in each age/gender category.
Event t-shirts are $20 with five styles available. This year, the shirts will be “lime shock” color with black logo. Adult long sleeve 50/50 cotton blend, men’s and women’s long or short sleeve nylon technical shirts can all be ordered. Some may be available at the event on a first come, first-served basis.
This year’s logo was designed by Jody Pearson, a junior at Weed High School.
“Jody has volunteered with SFA several times, and was excited to do this for us,” said event coordinator Denise Spayd. “We are proud to have her participate in this process.” Paul Palfini of Palfini Graphics took Jody’s design and created an interesting digital image.
“Paul has sponsored the event since it began, and we appreciate his creative work and attention to detail,” said Spayd.
