Mt. Shasta Blvd. was transformed into a sea of revelers Friday night in anticipation of the traditional tree lighting in front of Mount Shasta Police Department.

The crowd was treated to a selection of Christmas carols, sung by Mount Shasta’s Shalonda Gerdes. The lighting occurred directly after the fourth annual Winter Magic Holiday Light Parade. The event also included a window decorating contest.

The first place winner of the decorating contest was Sparky’s Landing. Second went to Century 21 and third to Coldwell Baker Real Estate.

Committee praise went to Vivid Salon, Jon Thomas Jewelry, Shasta Rainbow Angels, Pit Stop, and Mechanics Bank. Winners were selected by a confidential panel who served as judges for the competition. Winners were announced and presented with award plaques and $100, $75 and $50 citywide gift certificates at the tree lighting by Mount Shasta Union School District superintendent Barry Barnhart.
