The letters to the editor in the 1/15/20 edition of the Mount Shasta Herald contains a letter from Mr. Ronald Hennig stating that “ ... each of these (smart) meters transmits radiation that is harmful to humans.” However, the American Cancer Society states that “The frequency and power of the RF waves given off by a smart meter are similar to that of a typical cell phone, cordless phone, or residential Wi-Fi router. Smart meters typically send and receive short messages about 1% of the time.” And, the smart meters are located outside the house, and thus expose a home owner to much less radiation than sources within the house itself.

In view of the statement by the ACS, perhaps we should not lose sleep over the minor radiation of smart meters and instead make sure that we’re wearing sunblock outside.
