Weed Elementary School students Isaiah Higer-Rivera and Renaissance Johnson participated in this year’s California Music Educators Association, Northern Section Honor Band and Choir. This event consists of students who are auditioned and are considered the best amongst their peers from over 15 different counties in Northern California. The students then spend a few weeks preparing for the event on their own and gather in Chico for two days of rehearsals which culminates with a concert performance at Chico State University.
Higer-Rivera performed in the Honor Band on alto saxophone. Johnson performed with the Honor Choir as an Alto. Both students represented the community of Weed very well. Renaissance was recognized for her infectious positive attitude and preparedness and she was nominated as an alternate to receive a full scholarship to attend the Sierra Summer Music Camp. This marks the first time students from Weed Elementary School have participated in this event.
