Donald L. Wilson of McCloud, CA passed away of natural causes at home on February 6, 2020 at the age of 94.

Don was born in Memphis, Texas on November 22, 1925 to William and Emma Wilson. At the age of five, he moved with his family to Modesto, CA.

Don’s favorite sports were hunting and fishing, especially with his father, family and friends. He belonged to many sports and gun clubs, where he was a marksman. He took home many trophies for his skill.

Don also enjoyed raising and showing parakeets. He traveled around California competing in various bird shows.

In 1942, during World War II, at the young age of 17, he joined the Navy. He was assigned to the battleship “USS Indiana BB58”. He sailed off to war in the South Pacific as a “Signalman First Class”. He received the Purple Heart while proudly serving his country. He was honorably discharged in January, 1946. Down through the years, he attended many of his battleship reunions with all of his fellow shipmates.

Don worked for the U.S. Post Office as a mail carrier for fifteen years, then as a Supervisor for three years. In 1981 he moved to McCloud, CA, taking the job as Postmaster. He retired in February, 1992.

After retirement, Don continued to hunt, fish and grow beautiful vegetable and flower gardens. He continued to do so as long as he was able.

Don was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in McCloud, CA. He was also a member of the McCloud American Legion Post 92.

Don leaves behind his wife, Yvonne, daughter, Pamela, four stepchildren, thirteen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two stepchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 15th, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in McCloud, CA. Rosary will be before mass at 10:30 a.m.

Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Shasta Memorial Park.
