Jim William Hagedorn, 89, of Montague passed away peacefully of natural causes at Fairchild Medical Center on March 10, 2020.

Jim was born on March 1, 1931 in Montague, to Herman and Effie Hagedorn. He graduated from Yreka High School in 1949. He met the love of his life, Billie Spencer, and they were married July 8, 1955 at the Montague Methodist Church. They spent 64 wonderful years together.

In his younger years, Jim worked for the Clement Brothers in Montague, and followed on to work for Sharps Mill in Yreka. Next he worked as a Timber Faller for many years with his brothers. He loved working outside and spending time in the woods. Jim opened the doors to Jim’s Shasta Valley Meats in 1972. Along with owning Jim’s Shasta Valley Meats, Jim and Billie owned Hagedorn’s Catering. Together they catered many weddings, benefit dinners and community fundraisers. After retiring from Jim’s Shasta Valley Meats, Jim went back to the woods to work for Chuck L. Logging. Later he worked on the Novy Ranch where he enjoyed his days helping with the cattle. His last job was working with his son Gary watering roads for Smiley Brothers logging. If Jim wasn’t working, he wasn’t happy.

Jim was a proud Mason, Shriner and Elk. He is remembered for active contributions to supporting children’s causes. Jim helped build the Montague Swimming pool and was proud to be voted Elk of the Year in 1980. He was an outdoorsman and loved to camp, hunt, fish and garden. His favorite place to camp with family and friends was Medicine Lake. In addition, he was very involved in the community. He enjoyed performing in the Montague variety show, riding tandem bicycles for the Shriners and the yearly trips to Reno with the Elks Club.

Jim is survived by his wife, Billie; children, Gary (Roxann), Kathy Hagedorn and Julie (Bob) Rodgers; brothers, Claude “Dick” Hagedorn, Harvey Hagedorn and Gerald “Short” Hagedorn; grandchildren, Madison Rodgers, Megan Rodgers, Colby Rodgers, Nick Van Loan, Casey Awbrey and Lindsay Awbrey; sister in laws, Donna Jespersen, Susan Spencer and Kathy Spencer; cousins, Dorothy Mott, Shirley Eastlick, Marty Bigham and close friends, the Lightle Family.
