Evelyn Smith, a resident of Weed, California passed away on March 9, 2020 in Sacramento. Evelyn was born July 9, 1946 in Brookhaven, Mississippi. The family moved to Siskiyou County in 1952.
Evelyn worked at International Paper Company in Weed and P & M Lumber in McCloud. She had a passion for cooking and entertaining. She started her own catering service, Evie’s Catering and later Evie’s Thing.
She was a member of Mt. Shasta Baptist Church of Weed.
Evelyn loved her community and helping others. She was a volunteer at Great Northern Services, Siskiyou Food Assistance and the Weed Recreation and Parks District where she served as a founding board member of the Weed Community Center in Lincoln Heights. She was Co-President of the Weed Christmas Basket Committee.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband James Smith; parents Clinton Brown, Sr. and Louanna Brown and brother, Otis Brown.
She is survived by her daughter Meloney, son in-law Cepeda and granddaughter Alexa of Elk Grove; as well as sisters Ola Montgomery of Weed, Hazel Brown of Cottonwood and Bobbe Washington of Elk Grove and her brother Clinton Brown, Jr. of Newark.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, the memorial service scheduled for March 28, 2020 is postponed.
