Hubert Jerome (Jim) Franklin was born March 24, 1940 and passed away at home on March 15, 2020 with his wife, Cynthia at his bedside. Jim was born to Hubert M (Hoot) and Francis Franklin at home in McCloud on Easter Sunday, March 24, 1940.
His father introduced him to “ham radio” and he got his license at age 14, K6AWR. He attended school in McCloud and joined the U.S. Navy in 1957. He served in the Pacific as a Radar Technician.
Jim returned home in 1961, and went to work at the McCloud Lumber Company, when he met “Cindy” Neptune of Mount Shasta. He then hired on with DOD at McClellan AFB in Sacramento. They married in 1961, and lived in the Sacramento area, where they raised two children, Jimmy and Stacy Franklin. Jim retired in 1987, and built their “forever” home in the McCloud area in 1990.
Jim was active with the American Legion Post 92 in McCloud, helping with fundraising and managing the rifle and honor guard. He was also involved with the Mt. Shasta Amateur Radio Club, where he had many friends. Jim was an avid hunter. He enjoyed the outdoors and target shooting. He also loved camping and gold-panning.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Cindy; his children, Jimmy of McCloud, Stacy of Orangevale; his brother, Carl Franklin of Happy Valley; and by his granddaughters Lindsey (and Joseph) Evans of San Antonio, Texas; Jennifer (and Zack) Kohn, and great grandson Ethan, of Charlotte, North Carolina. He is survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews and is preceded in death by sisters Carol Ann, Mary Jean, and brother, John.
He was a loving husband, father, uncle and grandpa. He will be missed. There will be no services. Any donations in his name can be made to Mercy Medical Center Mt. Shasta Hospice.
