For the last 5 years, seniors enrolled in the Senior Theatre class at COS have provided live patients for the COS EMT training programs final exams. It not only has provided the EMT graduates the opportunity for dealing with live hands-on situations, it also gives them an opportunity to deal with geriatric related emergencies.

With the class being moved to on-line this semester because of the Covid-19 quarantine it didn’t seem as though this was going to work.

Not one to say no, program director Mike Thomson and instructor Randy Boyd contacted DeLeon Grabowski, the instructor of the Senior Theatre to see if they would be willing to provide some patients in an online virtual experiment. After contacting the seniors, who were sheltering in place, Grabowski was able to provide enough students to play roles assigned to them during the exam.

It was our contribution to an important part of our community and to COS program of training first responders of the future. Although the Theatre spring class and annual spring show came to an abrupt halt, the class will resume in the fall.
