Cesira Regina Salvestrin passed away on Wednesday, May 13, 2020 at the age of 93 while residing in assisted living in Yreka. She was born on July 16, 1926 to Antonio and Maria Piva in Weed, California.
Cesira attended Weed schools through her junior year then transferred and graduated from Mercy High School in Red Bluff. From there she moved to Chico where she worked as a nanny while attending State Normal School (Chico State College). She then moved to Oakland where she attended Holy Names College.
During her visits home to Weed she met Fred Salvestrin and they married on February 7, 1948. They remained in Weed the remainder of their lives, raising four children. Fred and Cesira were married for 69 years before his passing in 2017. Cesira was also predeceased by her parents, two brothers, and a sister.
Cesira was a homemaker. She loved being a mother, reading, cooking, sewing, and growing beautiful flowers. She worked at Long Bell Lumber Mercantile after college. After raising her children, she worked as a Library Technician at College of the Siskiyous where she retired in 1987. After retirement, she and Fred enjoyed traveling with classes through College of the Siskiyous, as well as going to Italy with their close friends.
She was a member of Mr. & Mrs. Club, Holy Family Church Alter Society, Sons of Italy, and the Golden Seniors.
Survivors include four children: Betty Wintersteen (Pete) of Brookings, OR, Jeanette Vinall (Rod) of Lake Shastina, CA, Lawrie Salvestrin of Chico, CA, and John Salvestrin (Deborah) of Weed. She also is survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Private graveside services will be held at Winema Cemetery in Weed.
