Are we devolving into the Divided States of America?

I’ve been asking myself that question every single day.

Why? Because lately I’ve been casting those who aren’t in my political party as adversaries, no, worse than that – enemies! I’m demonizing my fellow Americans because they see things differently than I do.

I wonder if I’m the only one grappling with this prejudice.

I hope so, since that attitude is more fatal, more terrifying, than the deadly corona virus. It destroys my belief that we can use our differences to create solutions to solve the many crises that face us. It robs me of my hope, my self-respect, my humanity.

So, I’ve made a decision. I refuse to harbor that prejudice one more moment. In the face of this time of hatred, chaos, confusion, I choose to believe that we, the people of the United States of America, will choose to be allies, regardless our differences so we can together find answers that will save, and yes, unite us all.

And if you are grappling with this prejudice, I hope you’ll make a similar choice.
