A man suspected of stabbing another man in Mount Shasta Wednesday afternoon was arrested as he was entering a wooded area near the Mt. Shasta Area Newpapers office on North Mt. Shasta Boulevard.
The suspect, 32 year-old Benjamin Kempf was booked into Siskiyou County Jail in Yreka for assault with a deadly weapon, the Mount Shasta Police Department reported.
MSPD officers were dispatched to a report of a stabbing victim at 700 Pine Street just after 3:45 p.m. on May 20, said MSPD Lieutenant Joe Restine.
“The victim was quickly located with multiple stab wounds and cuts to his torso area,” said Restine. He was taken to nearby Mercy Medical Center Mt. Shasta for treatment of his injuries.
Kempf was located by Mt. Shasta Fire Department personnel as he was entering the wooded area near the newspaper office.
“With the assistance of the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office and the California Highway patrol, Kempf was quickly taken into custody without incident,” Restine said.
