Unless you have been living in a cave for the last several months, the reality, regardless of “your take” the COVID-19 virus is spreading and Americans continue to die. We have a friend that lives in New York City and when confronted with an individual in denial about the pandemic she referred to the number of refrigerated containers parked on the street outside her apartment, in New York, containers carrying dead Americans. The immediate focus appears to be on red states Arizona. Florida and Texas. The governors of these states had “their take,” cues taken from the Trump administration, and are now paying the price. Contrary to the administration’s position, things are not improving in many areas, they are getting worse. Arizona’s infection rate has passed New York’s worse day and hospitals are running out of run beds. California, which appeared to be stabilizing, is seeing spiking in many areas. Siskiyou county has seen increases, though minor, so far, the infection rate has increased. The simple truth is while people remain in denial or even defiant it leaves an opening for the virus to invade and spread in our community.
Even worse, based on the degree of infection, businesses may be forced to shut down again and this time the community may consider enforcement. If we are to return to “normal” people need to be considerate of others and comply with social distancing, wear a mask in public and of course wash your hands thoroughly. A picture was recently posted of Vice President Dick Cheney wearing a mask stating “real men wear masks”. It’s not a political statement, as suggested by Donald Trump, it’s to keep Americans healthy.
