Longtime Mount Shasta, California resident Leah Valdez passed away unexpectedly on May 12, 2017 at her home.

Leah was born on May 24, 1944 to Roy and Florence McKinnon in Berkeley, California. She was a Bay Area native, and lived in Eureka, California for a period of time before making the move to Mount Shasta, which remained her home for the past 25 years.

Leah loved Mount Shasta: the mountain, the town, the weather, everything about it. When she did get out of the area, her favorite destination was the Pacific Ocean around Mendocino.

She enjoyed cross country skiing, and later in life took up crocheting as a hobby. Leah loved most animals, but had a special spot in her heart for cats.

Leah was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous, and she worked hard for many years to help herself and others fight alcoholism.

Leah is survived by her two children, Logan Thomas of Eureka and Jon Logan of Hayward; and three grandchildren, Kylie, Logan Jr., and Vanessa.

At this time, no services are to be held for Leah.

Girdner Funeral Chapel is assisting the family. Online condolences may be made at www.girdnerfuneralchapel.com.
