December 29, 1965 – August 11, 2018

Barbara Naomi Bedner Porter 53 of Dunsmuir passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on August 11, 2018.

She was born in San Francisco, Ca and spent most of her childhood in McCloud, Ca. ln 1983 she moved to Portland, to become a certified welder. After completing her trade schooling and having a son she moved back to McCloud, Ca in 1984 and proceeded to worked at the mill. Soon after, she started a career with the U.S. Forest Service and primarily worked in Fire for the following 29 years. She was most proud of her 1995 fire season at the Redding Interagency Hotshot Crew. In 2007 she felt honored to be the first mother and son to have been on the same Hotshot Crew possibly ever, but definitely in Redding when her son Ramon worked on the crew.

1997 Barbara bought her first home in Dunsmuir, Ca and enjoyed living in the rail road town. After retirement from the U.S. Forest Service in 2018, she opened Wildland Burgers and Barbara started her next chapter in her life. Opening her first business had her feeling reinvigorated and excited about the future. She had many hobbies such as gardening, fishing, boating, and incorporating arts and crafts into home décor to name a few.

Barbara is survived by her husband Eric Porter, son Ramon Mota (Jessica), sisters Leslie Cook, Linda Cook, Deborah Magalit, grandson Killian Mota, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Martha Howard “Sam” and David Jensen, also her brother David Jensen Jr.

A funeral will be held at 4835 Dunsmuir Ave, Dunsmuir CA at 2:00pm on August 26th. Please bring your favorite picture of Barbara if you would like the family to have it.
