September 5, 1933 - August 31, 2018

Gisele V. Lebel Ryan Maric passed away in Payson, Arizona, on August 31, 2018, after a short illness.  She was born in Drummondville Quebec, on September 5, 1933, to Roland and Elaine Lebel, but the family later moved to Sherbrooke, Quebec where she grew up. In 1956 she left home alone to travel to Anchorage, Alaska to marry her first husband Joseph W. Ryan, who was servicing in the Air Force. Together they lived in Bromptonville, Quebec, Prewitt, New Mexico, and finally settled in Taft in 1961.  A few years later, Gisele started working for Drs. Patrick and Tarr as their office manager. She staying with them through their retirements and worked for several years for Dr. Tang. In the mid-1980s she started working for Chevron in the Environmental department, first in Taft and later in Bakersfield where she retired in 1996.  In 1992, she married her second husband, Milenko Maric, gaining a stepdaughter Svjetlana Renovica who continues to live overseas, and a stepson, Zoran Maric who moved to the States.

Her upbringing in Quebec gave her an education that was very European.  She loved classical music, opera and ballet. She had a refined aesthetic style, always polished and finished, set off with a ready smile and the French accent she would never lose. She was an accomplished seamstress, often combining patterns to create her own unique design.  She was a wonderful cook and a fabulous artist, giving away her paintings to friends and family and laughed at the idea of selling them.  She loved art and history, and traveled extensively with her family, delighting in museums, historic sites and cultural experiences across the United States and Europe.
Gisele is survived by her husband Milenko Maric, now in Serbia; a daughter Denise Ryan and her husband Robert Rick of Payson, Arizona; a stepdaughter Svjetlana Renovica, her husband Zoran and their two daughters Ana and Andjela of Serbia; stepson Zoran Maric of Bakersfield and his three sons, Marco, Luka and Filip; sisters Denise Lebel and Mariette Dion, and brother Yvon Lebel of Sherbrooke, Quebec; and numerous nieces and nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews in Quebec.  Gisele was predeceased by her parents and two brothers, Gerald and Clement and a dearly loved brother-in-law Jean-Rene Dion.
No services are planned and a funeral will take place among family in the Spring.  In remembrance, please make a donation to a favorite charity in the name of Gisele Maric.
