Carlos Valdez was born July 30, 1929, to Ben and Josephine Valdez at his grandma's Rios' Adobe House in San Juan Capistrano, CA. He passed to his eternal home on May 13, 2018, at his home in Lake Shastina. He fought for 5 years with diminished health and dementia until his body had enough, God was ready for him to come home and join Him.
Carlos served in the US Navy as an aerial photographer for 4 years. He met the love of his life, Kathy, in March of 1956. It was love at first sight. They were married in August 1956.
Carlos was a mechanical designer and worked for the US Department of Energy through E. G. & G. and Livermore Lab for most of his life. He had top secret clearance and made many trips to watch nuclear weapons tests at Nevada test sites. He retired in 1992 due to health reasons. He and his wife retired to Lake Shastina in May 1993. Carlos enjoyed his retirement doing what he loved, playing golf 4 to 5 times a week. He was very proud when he got 2 holes in ones the same year. He loved taking walks with his wife and their dogs. He also loved sitting on their back deck looking at Mt. Shasta during the day and the stars at night. He was a member of Kiwanis and cooked many a pancake for their fundraisers. He also joined Siskiyou Habitat for Humanity and helped build and design ramps for people in need. He is preceded in death by his father, mother, brother Ben, sisters Juanita and Cecilia. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Katherine, his sons Brian–, wife Becky, Daren, wife Michele, daughter Becky, husband Matt, grandson Donny, wife Leslie, great grandson Carson, 2 step grandsons – Christopher, Jerome and 1 step granddaughter – Nicole and 4 step great grandchildren. Carlos will be missed by his wife and family.
The family would like to thank Mercy Medical Hospice and their volunteers for all their help and care for Carlos and his wife. They would also like to thank their neighbors and friends for their help and support.
Memorial service and celebration of life will be on 10/27/2018 at 11am; Holy Family Church, 1051 North Davis Avenue, Weed, CA 96064. Lunch will be served right after services at the church hall.
