Longtime Weed resident Roy Hood passed away on October 10, 2018 at Mercy Medical Center in Mount Shasta. He was 72 years old.
Roy was born on August 24, 1946 in Dardanelle, Arkansas to Wiley and Ollie Hood. In 1953, the family moved to Siskiyou County, settling in Weed, where Roy attended school.
In 1964, Roy married Olga Cottini in Payette, Idaho. Roy worked for Long Bell and International Paper prior to working as a locomotive engineer for Southern Pacific and Union Pacific for 36 years.
Roy enjoyed hunting, fishing and attending the local races. He loved motorcycles. Above all, Roy was a family man, and loved his entire family.
Roy is survived by his wife of 54 years, Olga Hood; two children, Roy Hood of Grenada and Julia Dallmann of Gazelle; a sister, Mary Estes of White City, Oregon; two granddaughters, Cynthia and Lisa Jones; and four great-grandchildren: Cooper, Jaiden and Dakota Freeman and Zoe Stephens.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 20 at 1 p.m. at Girdner Funeral Chapel in Yreka. Interment will follow at Winema Cemetery in Weed.
