Virginia Elaine Messenger drew her last breath and went to be with The Lord on Monday, November 19th after battling with COPD and CHF.

She was born on July 15, 1928 in Mattoon, Illinois to Roscoe and Gertrude Bates.

In 1936, she and her mother moved to California. She grew up and lived most of her life in Mt. Shasta where her mother and then stepfather owned and operated Abrams Lake Resort.

Virginia's true love in life was cooking for her family and friends. She got her start learning to cook at the Aaron Thomas Cafe in Weed, CA. She went on to own her own restaurant, The Coffee Cup in Mt.Shasta and eventually spent her last working years cooking at Mercy Hospital.

After retirement, she moved to Redding, CA to be close to her family and remained for 28 years.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Harold Bates, Edward Baker Jr., and her late husband John (Jack) Messenger.

She is survived by her daughter Charlotte and husband Will Chacon from Red Bluff, CA and her daughter Deanna and her husband Rob Ahlenstorf from Redding, CA, 4 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild.

Services will be held on Thursday, November 29th at the Mt.Shasta Memorial Chapel at 1:00pm
