Alice M. Codamo McChesney, passed on to be with her friends and loved ones on January 30, 2019 at the age of 95.
Alice was born in Mt. Shasta, California at the home of John and Alice Codamo on December 7, 1923 during a snow storm.
Alice was a graduate of Mt. Shasta High School and went on to get her teaching degree at San Jose State College. During this time in college she volunteered at the USO and met a sailor named Lew who was stationed in Oakland. In 1946 they were married in Mt. Shasta.
Alice taught elementary school in San Jose, but soon the first of three children came along, so she decided her teaching skills would best be used for her own little ones.
Alice was active in PTA, Girl Scouts, church, and many other service groups. When her kids graduated from high school she started helping Lew as his bookkeeper in his machine shop business which they ran for 20 years.
Alice leaves behind her three children: Janet Spears (Jack), Jim McChesney (Linda) and John McChesney; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Alice’s husband died in 2003.
Alice taught her children to be of service to others, gave life real meaning and purpose, and that no matter where they lived, Mt. Shasta would always be their home. She taught us well.
