After a long illness, Everet Ernest Smith passed away peacefully at home on January 31, 2019, surrounded by his family.

Everet was born April 9, 1941 in Yreka, California to Ernie and Mamie Smith and remained in Siskiyou County throughout his 77 years. He was employed by Southern Pacific & Union Pacific Railroad for 39 years, first as a brakeman then as a conductor.

An avid outdoorsman, Everet loved hunting, fishing, telemark skiing and hiking (he climbed Mount Shasta 14 times and hiked to every lake in the Trinity Alps). A skilled marksman, Everet won numerous awards including several NBRSA California State Championships.

His love for the outdoors was only surpassed by his love of family and traveling with his wife, Madeline (Sam). He was also proud and grateful for his 37 years in the fellowship of A.A.

Everet was preceded in death by his brother, Ralph (Pard) in 1982; and his beloved daughter, Kimbra Sue Palfini in 2017.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Madeline (Sam) Smith; his daughter, Cindy Bryant (Dennis Hickey); brother, Wayne (Barbara) Smith; five grandchildren: Stephanie Palfini, Elizabeth Manfredi, Erika Palfini, Michael Manfredi and Aaron Palfini; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Everet’s life will be held at the Mount Shasta Baptist Church on Lassen Lane, Saturday, February 9 at 11 a.m.
