Jane DeGuia, a resident of McCloud, California, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2019 at her home, with her husband Chuck at her bedside, after a long illness. She had Hospice care at the end.
Mary “Jane” Pugh was born to Melvin and Okla Pugh in Oklahoma on March 15, 1928. The family moved to El Cerritos, California where Jane graduated high school.
Jane was a restaurant owner of Jimbo Hotdogs in Marinwood, Marin County, California, where she met Charles DeGuia and married him in 1983. They moved to McCloud in 1986, where Chuck founded his business, Chuck’s Appliance Repair.
Jane became very active in the McCloud Garden Club, the Squaw Valley Riding Club, and the American Legion Auxiliary where she served a term as president.
Jane had many friends and spent a very social life until struck down by an unsuccessful back surgery.
Jane had four children by her previous marriage and was preceded in death by her two sons, Dwayne Rush and Dennis Rush.
She is survived by her husband, Chuck DeGuia; and daughters: Debbie Free of Roseville, California and Sandra Shipley of Crockett, California; and her sister, Joyce and brother-in-law, Duane Morton of Ukiah, California. She has two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by her stepchildren: Kristen DeGuia-Potter, whom she raised; Curtis-DeGuia, Debbie DeGuia, and Christopher DeGuia.
There will be a Celebration of Life on March 15 (Jane’s birthday) at 10 a.m. at the American Legion Annex, 232 Broadway Street in McCloud.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, any donations in her name be made to Mercy Medical Center Mt. Shasta Hospice, 914 Pine Street in Mt. Shasta; or the American Cancer Society.
