Mary Rose Scalise Lipscomb, age 96, joined her family in heaven on February 5, 2019.

Mary was born on July 29, 1922. She was the eldest of four Scalise children, three girls and one boy.

Mary was raised in a very active and loving Italian home. Cooking great meals was their specialty. If you visited at any time of the day, you can bet they would sit you right down with a plate of delicious food, a no thank you was not accepted.

Mary was the baker in the family and she baked birthday cakes for her doctor, Dr. Sternberg, and every priest that was lucky enough to know her.

Mary also dabbled in painting classes. Even she was surprised at her beautiful creations. You’ll see some of them in the hall.

Mary attended Weed Elementary and High School. After graduating, Mary went to work at the local 5, 10, and 15 cent store on Main Street in Weed. When Sprouse Reitz store came to town Mary went to work for them, she was soon a manager.

Years later, College of the Siskiyous opened it’s doors and Mary was hired in the book store and worked there until she retired.

Mary has always been a very loving person, she especially loved children and was always eager to hold and care for the little ones in church. When little Heather Rose Lemos was a baby, and Mom Amber was playing the organ, Mary and sister Josie would take charge of little Heather.

When Mary retired, she attended daily Mass every day. She sang in the choir, made baked goods and handmade items for the Spring Boutique.

Mary would do whatever was asked of her. She was a sweet, quiet friend to everyone that knew her. Rest in Peace Ms. Mary, you deserve it.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held for Mary on Saturday, February 16 at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Weed with reception to follow.

Internment will be at Winema Cemetery also in Weed following the reception.
