Catherine LaJoie Haws
Born in Maine in a French Canadian community, Catherine LaJoie Haws moved with her family to Bakersfield, California in 1952. The family relocated from there to Arvin, California, where Catherine spent her younger years, attending elementary school and graduating from High School. She was an honor student, active in women's sports, and played in the band. She continued her education at Bakersfield Junior College.
After meeting her husband, Kenny, in San Diego, they relocated to Fort Jones, and then Happy Camp, before Catherine obtained employment at Mount Shasta High School, where she spent over 20 years as the custodial supervisor. One of her greatest joys during her working career was interacting with her students and watching them develop into mature adults before her eyes. She took great pride in keeping the kids in line, and they in turn respected her. It brought her great joy to encounter past students and feel the enthusiasm they expressed upon seeing her.
Catherine was preceded in death by her husband, Kenny. She is survived by her four siblings, James-wife Penny, Richard-wife Deborah, Murlene, and Greg, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was a member of the McCloud Garden Club, and the St. Joseph Altar Society.
Burial will take place at McCloud Cemetery Oct. 9th at 10 AM with a reception to follow at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in McCloud.
