George Steven Evangelist
Weed - 72 year old Weed resident, George Steven "Steve" Evangelist, passed away on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at his home with his wife of 49 years by his side.
Steve was born on August 20, 1948 in San Francisco to Joseph and Dorothy (Horne) Evangelist. After graduating high school, Steve joined the United States Navy, where he served honorably for several years, and was awarded several medals, including the Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. After discharge from the Navy, Steve married Susan Jo Walcott, and the couple has remained together for nearly 50 years.
Steve worked as a hair stylist and salon owner for a number of years before entering the technology field as a purchasing agent for Xerox. His final and most memorable career was with Costco, where he worked for 11 years. He greatly enjoyed working with the public and supervising "the guys" until his retirement in 2016.
Steve's love language has always been music. In his final years, Steve and his wife, Susan, would spend hours driving the beautiful Siskiyou County back roads, enjoying the scenery and rocking out to the Classic Vinyl and Beatles channels on Sirius XM. "Let's Go!" by The Cars was his daily request. Steve inspired his sons and grandchildren with a love of music and just enjoying the moment.
Steve leaves behind his wife, Susan; three children: Keegan (Erika) of McMinville, Tristan (Laura) of Eugene, and Simon (Chisako) of Eugene; siblings, James of San Bruno and Karen Eatinger of San Jose; and six grandchildren.
A graveside funeral service with full military honors was held on August 25th in Winema Cemetery in Weed. Girdner Funeral Chapel is assisting the family, and online condolences may be made at www.girdnerfuneralchapel.com.
